What is Your Style

Master suite bedroom

When deciding to decorate a bedroom or any room in your home, you must first determine the style you plan to use.  This can be a bit overwhelming since there are so many different concepts and styles.  The first step to choosing your style is to take a look around you.  What are the elements, artwork, and furniture you have around you?  This is a good indication of what style you like and feel more comfortable using.

If you're ready for a whole new makeover, then the first step is to choose a main decorating style.  The four major types of decorating styles are modern, contemporary, traditional, and eclectic.  Here is a short quiz to help you determine, which style suits you.

1.  What do you prefer to use as artwork?

a.  Incorporate a wall mural or wall stickers as artwork.

b.  Hang up a large Peter Max painting or print.

c.  Use several types of trinkets, treasures, and artwork given or found over the years.

d.  Simple, breathtaking landscape painting.

2.  What decorating sub-style sounds more appealing?

a.  Simple beach style bedroom.

b.  Minimalist Style, with simple, functional pieces of furniture and décor.

c.  Combination of Moroccan, Asian, and dynamic works of art.

d.  French Country or Rustic Style

3.  When decorating a room you tend to use the following as your focal point:

a.  Architectural elements, such as beautiful windows and wooden beams, but softened by traditional window treatments and bedding.

b.  Use simple, sleek, and functional furniture as your focal point.  Maybe incorporate a concrete, brick, or textured accent wall.

c.  Create a fun theme; for example, a princess room, Hawaiian, or Palm Beach style.

d.  Use classical furniture with vintage inspired décor.

If you tend to answer "a" to these questions, then you are a streamlined, "less is more" contemporary style lover.  If you answered "b" to the majority of the above questions, then you like the functional, strong, simple lines of the modern style.  If you kept choosing "c" to the above questions, then you like to create themes, mix family treasures, found items, and personal favorites from furniture stores, accessory shops, and showrooms to create an eclectic style.  Finally, if "d" was your main choice, then you like the gracious and inviting, traditional design style, which evokes warmth and classical comfort many remember from childhood homes.  Of course, if you picked a different answer from each question, then you like the eclectic style, which also is defined as combining different styles together.

Now that you know what style you like, it's time to decorate your bedroom, here are some great ideas and tips:
